Day 3

This morning we said goodbye to the city of Munich and boarded a train headed to Salzburg, Austria. Salzburg is a Bavarian town famous for its pristine views, the home of Mozart, and, of course, being the setting of The Sound Music (apparently it's a pretty great movie). We spent the day exploring this old city and being introduced to the lifestyle and customs of the region.

A grueling hike up the mountain in the center of the town brought us to Fortress Hohensalzburg, one of the largest Medieval castles in Europe. We learned that the castle was actually built and commissioned by the Catholic archbishop of the region who had assumed a despotic role over the area. It was sad to read about such an unhealthy overlap of church and state. One of the team reminded us all that "our kingdom is not of this world," and seeing such a beautiful fortress decaying under the pressure of time made us long for the day when Christ returns to recreate this world and make it perfect as it was meant to be.

We returned to our hotel early to rest up. Tomorrow morning we take a train to Bad-Teinach Zavelstein where we'll be ministering to missionary children and enjoying fellowship with believers who are serving all over Europe. We see the value in being able to spend a couple days immersing ourselves in the culture and history of the region. It opened our eyes to the unique challenges these missionaries face and makes us all the more excited to serve and encourage them in their labors on behalf of our Lord.

Please be praying for our safe travels tomorrow, and pray for the BMW Missionary Conference. We hope that it is immensely encouraging to all attending.
